The GL is a worthy entry in its segment, but it has none of the charisma of the Cadillac Escalade or Mercedes-Benz's own G-class, which it was supposed to supplant.
The 2007 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class drives much smaller than a full-size SUV should, and it costs less than you might expect.
The GL-Class has strong acceleration from the gasoline V8, gas mileage in the 20s with the diesel V6, quiet interior, many available luxury amenities, excellent fit and finish, and comfortable seating.
Ride quality might be a little floaty for some.
The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is large and capable off road yet feels surprisingly car-like on the road. That car-like feeling comes in part because this is the first full-size SUV built around a unibody architecture instead of traditional body-on-frame construction.
